NRO Participates in the Monthly WASH Cluster Meeting in Baidoa

Baidoa | June 17, 2026National Relief Organization (NRO) participated today in the monthly WASH Cluster Meeting, convened by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the South West State of Somalia.

The meeting brought together humanitarian organizations, UN agencies, NGOs, and development partners working in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector to strengthen coordination and improve the delivery of essential WASH services across South West State.

During the meeting, participants discussed strategic plans to expand access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services in districts and communities throughout the region. They also reviewed the key challenges affecting WASH service delivery and explored collaborative solutions to address existing gaps through stronger coordination among government institutions and humanitarian partners.

In his closing remarks, the Director of the Water Department at the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Liban Aw Khalif, presented findings from a recent joint field mission to Burhakaba District. The mission was conducted by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of South West State, UNICEF, and representatives from the Ministry of Health of South West State.

The Director explained that the mission focused on assessing water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and public health services in Burhakaba District. The assessment aimed to identify priority needs, evaluate existing services, and inform future interventions to strengthen access to essential WASH and health services for local communities.
